New expressway strengthens Mekong Delta link to Long Thanh airport

The newly operational expressway, developed by Vietnam Expressway Corporation, traverses three provinces and municipalities including Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai before terminating near the airport zone. The route terminates approximately 10 kilometers from Long Thanh International Airport's main facilities, where it intersects with National Highway 51 and feeds into the existing Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway corridor.

The infrastructure project represents a significant step in integrating the southern Mekong Delta region with one of Southeast Asia's most ambitious airport developments. Long Thanh International Airport has been advancing toward commercial service commencement, with complementary transport networks under simultaneous development across the region.

Accompanying infrastructure improvements include metro rail extensions and a planned rail link designed to accommodate high passenger volumes. A dedicated rail corridor between Thu Thiem and Long Thanh Airport is engineered to handle up to 47,000 passengers hourly, underscoring the scale of integrated transport planning surrounding the airport project.

The expressway completion addresses long-standing connectivity challenges for the Mekong Delta, one of Vietnam's most economically significant agricultural regions. By establishing a direct, high-capacity route to the international airport, the corridor is expected to facilitate freight movements and passenger travel while supporting broader regional development objectives.
