New Form 141 consolidates TDS filings for property, rent and crypto

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has introduced Form 141 as a unified framework for filing tax deducted at source obligations, eliminating the need for multiple forms across different transaction categories. The consolidated form incorporates TDS requirements for residential and commercial property purchases, rental income, payments to contractors and service providers, and transfers of cryptocurrency and virtual digital assets.

The new form employs a schedule-based system where taxpayers must complete separate sections depending on the nature of transactions conducted during the financial year. This structure allows filers to address all TDS categories within a single submission while maintaining clarity on transaction-specific requirements and calculation methodologies.

For property buyers and sellers, the introduction of Form 141 simplifies compliance procedures previously managed through multiple forms. Tenants and landlords involved in rental transactions will similarly benefit from consolidated reporting, as will those making payments to contractors and vendors. Individuals and entities dealing in virtual digital assets will find the cryptocurrency transfer provisions integrated into the same framework.

The transition to Form 141 represents the tax administration's effort to reduce compliance burden while maintaining rigorous oversight of TDS collections across sectors. Stakeholders are advised to review the form's detailed schedules and accompanying instructions to ensure accurate categorization of transactions and timely filing of their TDS obligations.
