New IAF Chief Unveils VAYU Vision for Combat Readiness

Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit took over as the 29th Chief of the Indian Air Force, presenting a comprehensive operational doctrine aimed at ensuring the service remains continuously prepared for combat operations. The new leadership blueprint, termed the VAYU vision, establishes a multi-faceted approach to enhancing the IAF's capabilities and operational effectiveness.

The VAYU framework prioritizes four core pillars: readiness for combat operations across all domains, enhanced self-reliance through indigenous development of defense systems and platforms, fostering innovation within the service, and strengthening integration and coordination with the Indian Army and Indian Navy. This tri-service synergy is viewed as essential to India's defense posture amid evolving regional security challenges.

The emphasis on self-reliance reflects the government's broader push for 'Make in India' within the defense sector, reducing dependence on foreign acquisitions while building indigenous technological expertise. The innovation pillar is designed to leverage emerging technologies and modernize existing systems to maintain the IAF's technological edge.

Dixit's appointment comes as India faces dynamic security challenges in South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. The new chief's strategic vision underscores the IAF's commitment to maintaining constant operational readiness while building long-term institutional capabilities that align with India's defense modernization objectives.
