The RuPay credit card scheme introduces a competitive rewards programme designed to incentivise grocery purchases through digital and retail channels. Cardholders can earn 7.5% cashback when shopping at major grocery retailers and quick-commerce platforms, reflecting growing consumer reliance on digital channels for everyday purchases.
The cashback benefit covers transactions at established grocery chains such as DMart and Reliance Fresh alongside popular quick-commerce platforms Blinkit, Zepto and BigBasket. This broad merchant coverage aligns with consumer shopping patterns across organised retail and emerging digital grocery channels in India.
While the 7.5% cashback rate offers substantial value for regular grocery shoppers, the monthly cap of ₹1,000 places a ceiling on maximum benefits per cardholder. This translates to a maximum monthly spend of approximately ₹13,333 at eligible merchants to realise full cashback benefits.
The card launch reflects intensifying competition in the consumer credit segment as issuers seek to differentiate offerings through category-specific rewards. The focus on grocery purchases targets a high-frequency, essential spending category where cardholders are likely to accumulate rewards regularly across both traditional and digital retail formats.
