The Ministry of Railways has flagged off a new Vande Bharat sleeper express service linking Bengaluru and Mumbai, marking a significant expansion of the premium train fleet's reach into overnight travel segments. The inauguration was conducted by the Railway Minister, underscoring the government's commitment to modernising inter-city connectivity across the southern and western regions.
The overnight service will traverse a strategic route spanning three states, with stops at Anantapur, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur, and Pune before reaching its final destination. This routing positions the train as a key connector between the tech hub of Bengaluru and the financial capital of Mumbai, while simultaneously improving accessibility for intermediate towns and cities along the corridor.
The introduction of the sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat fleet addresses long-standing demand for faster, more comfortable overnight travel options on this commercially important route. The service is expected to provide passengers with enhanced amenities while reducing travel time compared to conventional overnight trains, contributing to the broader modernisation initiative across Indian Railways' network.
The launch reflects ongoing efforts to expand the Vande Bharat portfolio beyond day-services, with the sleeper configuration designed to cater to business and leisure travellers seeking overnight connectivity between major metropolitan centres across South and Southeast India.
