New Zealand Cricket has named a 23-player squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, implementing a strategic split arrangement to manage player workload ahead of the Test matches that follow the white-ball contest. The five-match series commences on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland.
Only six players will feature across all five ODIs: captain Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Will Young, and Blair Tickner. A second contingent of eight specialists, including Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Nathan Smith, will participate exclusively in the opening three matches before departing to prepare for the Test series in Wellington.
The selection sees the return of three players to New Zealand's ODI setup. Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Seifert have been recalled, while Ravindra makes his comeback following recovery from a shoulder injury. The split squad arrangement reflects the scheduling challenge posed by the consecutive ODI and Test series, allowing selectors to balance competition demands with longer-format preparation.
Additional players will be named to complete the squad for the final two ODIs in the series against India.
