New Zealand's parliament has approved the legislative framework to implement the free trade agreement with India, opening new market opportunities for exporters across both nations. The deal, which cleared parliament on Wednesday, will see tariffs eliminated or meaningfully lowered on approximately 95 per cent of New Zealand's exports destined for Indian markets. The agreement represents one of New Zealand's most substantial trade arrangements in the Asia-Pacific region, with the country seeking to strengthen economic partnerships beyond traditional trading blocs. The tariff reductions are expected to benefit a wide range of New Zealand exporters across agricultural, manufacturing and services sectors. India's growing economy and expanding middle class have made it an increasingly attractive market for New Zealand businesses seeking to diversify export destinations and reduce dependence on traditional partners.
