Janmashtami, the Hindu festival marking Lord Krishna's birth, was observed with devotion and enthusiasm at Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail in Meerut on Wednesday. The eight-month-old daughter of an accused woman in a criminal matter was dressed in traditional attire as Radha, the divine consort of Krishna, for the celebrations.
Four children residing with female inmates at the facility participated in the festivities by portraying Radha and Krishna. The jail administration facilitated the religious observance, which included puja ceremonies, devotional songs, elaborate tableaux displays, and distribution of blessed offerings to inmates and staff.
The celebration reflected efforts by jail authorities to maintain cultural and religious practices for inmates and their dependents. Children born to incarcerated mothers remain housed within women's wards at Indian correctional facilities, and the jail's approach allowed them to participate in significant religious occasions.
