Newborn dies in hospital fire triggered by AC unit malfunction
A five-day-old infant died following a fire in the SNCU ward of a government hospital in Telangana after an air conditioning unit malfunctioned. Twenty-three other patients were transferred to alternate facilities as authorities launched an investigation into the incident.

A critical incident at RIMS Hospital in Adilabad has claimed the life of a five-day-old newborn after a fire erupted in the Specialized Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) ward. The blaze originated from a defective air conditioning unit, authorities said. The infant was among the most vulnerable patients in the ward at the time of the incident.
Immediate evacuation procedures were initiated following the outbreak of fire. Hospital staff managed to safely relocate 23 children from the affected ward to other medical facilities in the region, preventing further casualties. No other deaths have been reported from the incident.
The hospital administration has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire, with particular focus on the AC unit failure and potential lapses in safety protocols. Authorities are examining whether adequate maintenance procedures were in place and if fire safety measures met required standards for neonatal care wards.
