Residents of Tikri village panchayat in Alwar district's Mewat region hosted an unusual welcome ceremony for their newly elected sarpanch Rashid and sarpanch representative Azan Khan following their victory in recent panchayat elections.
In a distinctive show of celebration, villagers fashioned a garland spanning approximately 25 to 30 feet in length entirely from 500-rupee notes. The currency garland, which reportedly contained notes valued at approximately 10 lakh rupees, was ceremonially placed around the officials' necks during the welcome event.
The unconventional welcome ceremony has garnered significant attention on social media platforms, with video footage of the event circulating widely online. The gesture, while celebratory in nature, reflects the enthusiasm of villagers in marking the electoral success of their newly elected panchayat representatives in the region.
The incident comes amid broader engagement by rural communities in Rajasthan's Mewat area with their newly constituted local governance structures following recent panchayat elections.
