Neymar Santos Sr, the father and long-time representative of PSG forward Neymar Jr, has been named chief executive of Santos FC, one of Brazil's most storied football institutions. The appointment comes as the club seeks to strengthen its administrative structure under president Marcelo Teixeira's leadership.
According to club officials, Neymar Sr's appointment is conditional upon Teixeira's successful re-election as president in the December ballot. Should Teixeira retain his position, the elder Neymar is expected to maintain his executive role at the São Paulo-based club.
Santos, which boasts a rich history including the legendary tenure of Pelé in the 1950s and 1960s, has faced financial and sporting challenges in recent years. The appointment signals the club's intent to bring experienced management into its executive ranks as it works to restore the institution to former prominence.
The move also represents a significant step for Neymar Sr beyond his traditional role as his son's representative, positioning him within the broader Brazilian football establishment.
