NFL Star Hurts Funds Air Conditioning for Philadelphia Schools

Jalen Hurts, quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has pledged $600,000 to improve climate control at Northeast High School in Philadelphia. The funding will support the installation of air conditioning units across the large, decades-old campus, which has struggled with inadequate heating and cooling infrastructure.

The donation directly addresses a persistent problem that has disrupted the academic calendar for more than 3,300 students. School closures due to extreme heat have become an annual concern, forcing administrators to reschedule classes and disrupt learning schedules during summer months and early fall.

This latest commitment adds to Hurts' ongoing educational initiatives in his home city. In previous years, the quarterback had already contributed $200,000 toward air conditioning systems at other Philadelphia schools, demonstrating a sustained focus on improving learning environments in the district.

School officials expect the new air conditioning units to be operational before the next warm season, ensuring that classrooms remain functional and safe for students regardless of outdoor temperatures. The project represents one of several infrastructure improvements the district has undertaken to modernize aging school buildings across the city.
