NHAI restores two-way traffic at Vellore's Green Circle roundabout

The Green Circle roundabout in Vellore town has been identified as a traffic accident hotspot, prompting authorities to undertake safety improvements. NHAI responded by commissioning the construction of a subway beneath the roundabout to manage traffic flow more efficiently and reduce collision risks at the busy intersection.

The completion of the subway project has enabled NHAI to restore unrestricted two-way traffic movement around the Green Circle. The new infrastructure separates traffic streams that previously converged at the roundabout, allowing vehicles to navigate the area with reduced conflict points.

Roundabout design typically creates multiple intersection points where vehicles interact, making such locations prone to accidents if traffic volumes are high or driving discipline is inconsistent. By introducing a grade-separated crossing through the subway, NHAI has effectively eliminated one of the major traffic conflict zones at the location.
