NHAI terminates Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway contractor, rebids work

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has terminated the contract of the construction company handling the Arakkonam-Kancheepuram section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway project, citing delays and incomplete work. The decision paves the way for the authority to accelerate completion of this critical infrastructure corridor linking two major commercial hubs in South India.

Following the contractor's removal, NHAI has floated fresh tender invitations for the outstanding work on the stretch. The remaining construction activities have been valued at ₹633.12 crore and are expected to be completed within an 18-month timeline under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) execution model.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The rebidding process is expected to bring fresh momentum to the project and ensure timely delivery of this strategically important highway corridor.

The move reflects NHAI's approach of enforcing accountability among contractors to meet project timelines and quality standards. The new tender process will allow competitive bidding to potentially improve project efficiency and cost management for the remaining works.
