NHRC seeks report on child trafficking from MP, Rajasthan to Maharashtra

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated action following media reports of alleged trafficking and trading of minor girls from the border regions of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The girls were reportedly being trafficked to Maharashtra, according to the reports that triggered the commission's intervention.

In response to the allegations, the NHRC has issued notices to the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, calling for comprehensive reports on the matter. The three states have been given a fortnight to submit their findings and details of action taken or proposed to curb such trafficking networks.

The commission's move reflects growing concerns over child trafficking in India, particularly in border areas where inter-state coordination is critical. The NHRC typically seeks detailed responses from state authorities regarding preventive measures, rescue operations, and rehabilitation efforts for trafficked children.

Child trafficking remains a significant challenge across India, with criminal networks exploiting vulnerable children from economically weaker regions. The involvement of multiple states underscores the need for coordinated enforcement action and inter-state cooperation to dismantle trafficking rackets and protect minors from exploitation.
