The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a conspiracy orchestrated by Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), a breakaway faction of the Jama'at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The arrest marks another step in the agency's ongoing crackdown on terror-linked networks operating across South Asia.
According to the NIA's investigation, the arrested individual was found to have played an active role in the conspiracy hatched by IMK members. The agency has been tracking the activities of the splinter group, which emerged from the broader JMB organization that has been designated as a terrorist entity by multiple nations.
IMK has been the subject of heightened security scrutiny in recent years, with investigators alleging the group maintains a network spanning multiple countries in the region. The offshoot faction has been linked to various alleged plots targeting civilians and strategic installations.
The NIA continues its probe into the matter and has not ruled out additional arrests. Officials said further investigation would determine the full extent of the conspiracy and the involvement of other suspected operatives in the network.
