NIA secures second warrant against LeT founder Hafiz Saeed in two months

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has secured a second non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed within two months, a Special Court in Jammu heard on Monday. The NIA's application, filed under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), pertains to a terror case involving the alleged supply of weapons, funds, and directions to militant groups operating in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The court's proceedings focused on Saeed's status as an absconding accused in a case stemming from the arrest of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, who was detained during a security check at Pandach on the outskirts of Srinagar earlier this year. Authorities recovered a China-manufactured grenade and 15 live rounds from Bhat, a resident of Batpora. The NIA informed the court that Saeed, listed as a resident of Sargodha in Punjab, Pakistan, remains outside Indian jurisdiction.

Bhat was booked at Zakoora Police Station under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act. The issuance of the second warrant underscores ongoing investigations into LeT's operational network and its alleged involvement in supplying arms and resources to militant outfits in Kashmir. Saeed, designated as a terrorist under Indian law, has long been sought by Indian agencies for his role in orchestrating cross-border terror activities.
