The Nilgiris district faced a spate of minor landslip incidents on October 24-25, with authorities documenting 62 such occurrences as the region came under heavy precipitation. The sustained downpour posed challenges for residents and infrastructure across the hilly terrain of the district.
Meteorological data recorded a cumulative rainfall of 453.9 mm across the district during the 24-hour window. Parsons Valley in Udhagamandalam taluk emerged as the wettest location, registering 52 mm of rainfall—the highest single-point measurement in the district during this period.
The high concentration of minor landslips underscores the vulnerability of the Nilgiris region during monsoon months, when saturated soil conditions and steep gradients combine to increase geological instability. Authorities have not reported major casualties or significant infrastructure damage from the incidents.
The weather system brought relief to water-stressed reservoirs in the region but highlighted ongoing concerns about landslip preparedness in the district. Local administration continues to monitor rainfall patterns and ground conditions as the monsoon season progresses.
