DINALUPIHAN, Bataan — Nine houses were destroyed when floodwaters surged through Barangay Pita in Dinalupihan town on Thursday, authorities said. The homes, located near Pita River, were swept away as raging waters inundated the low-lying residential community.
The extent of casualties remains unclear, with authorities unable to immediately confirm whether occupants were present in the structures at the time of the incident. Emergency response teams have not yet provided a comprehensive damage assessment.
Local government officials moved swiftly to contain the crisis by ordering mass evacuations. Mayor German Santos directed hundreds of residents living along the river to abandon their homes and move to temporary shelters operated by municipal disaster management units.
The flooding underscores the persistent vulnerability of riverside communities in the province during heavy rainfall events. Authorities have yet to issue statements regarding recovery efforts or the timeline for displaced residents to return home.
