Nippon Express, the logistics arm of Japan's NX Group, is positioning itself to capitalize on India's growing semiconductor manufacturing ambitions with significant infrastructure investments and workforce development initiatives.
The company plans to establish a dedicated semiconductor logistics facility in Gujarat by 2027, marking a major commitment to support India's chip production ambitions. The facility is expected to handle the specialized storage, handling, and transportation requirements of sensitive semiconductor equipment and materials.
As part of its expansion strategy, NX Group intends to invest in training its Indian workforce to manage the complexities of semiconductor logistics. This includes developing expertise in handling specialized chip equipment and materials that require strict temperature, humidity, and contamination controls.
The $380 million revenue target reflects NX Group's confidence in India's semiconductor sector growth prospects. The investment aligns with the Indian government's push to develop domestic chip manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imports through initiatives like the Production-Linked Incentive scheme.
The Gujarat facility will position Nippon Express as a critical infrastructure provider for both domestic semiconductor manufacturers and international players establishing operations in India as the country emerges as a key manufacturing hub in the region.
