NLC India has unveiled plans to commit ₹37,000 crore towards developing multiple energy and mineral projects in Odisha, signalling a significant expansion of the state-owned enterprise's footprint in the resource-rich state.
The centrepiece of the investment programme is a 3,200 megawatt thermal power plant, which alone will account for ₹35,000 crore of the total outlay. The facility is designed to leverage Odisha's abundant coal reserves and support the state's growing electricity demand.
Beyond power generation, NLC India is earmarking ₹2,000 crore for a beach sand mineral processing facility. The project aims to tap into Odisha's substantial mineral deposits along its coastal regions, adding value through downstream processing operations.
The company is also planning a coal gasification-fertiliser project as part of its diversification strategy. The initiative reflects efforts to create integrated operations that convert coal into higher-value products, potentially strengthening India's agricultural chemical security.
The investment announcements underscore NLC India's commitment to leveraging Odisha's natural resources while contributing to the state's industrial growth and employment generation. Project implementation timelines and regulatory approvals remain subject to further development.
