MANILA — Motorists faced heavy congestion on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) on Wednesday evening as traffic management authorities reported slowdowns affecting both northbound and southbound lanes.
According to an advisory issued by NLEx management late Wednesday, lane 3 on both directions near Tulaoc in San Simon, Pampanga, and at the San Simon Interchange became impassable as of 8:15 p.m., forcing vehicle diversion to alternate lanes and contributing to extended travel times.
The expressway operator did not specify the cause of the lane closures, though such incidents typically result from accidents, vehicle breakdowns, or maintenance operations. Motorists using the major north-south thoroughfare were advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes during the evening peak period.
The NLEx remains a critical artery for traffic between Metro Manila and northern Luzon provinces, handling thousands of vehicles daily. The Wednesday evening disruption added to regular congestion typical of the region during late afternoon and evening hours.
