The North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Corporation has undertaken significant river maintenance work across Pampanga province, dredging and widening approximately 20 kilometers of waterway to help prevent flooding and improve traffic flow on the expressway.
NLEx Corporation President and General Manager Luis Reñon briefed provincial officials on the infrastructure initiative during a meeting in San Fernando, underscoring the toll operator's commitment to addressing water management challenges in the region.
The project, which targeted three separate rivers in the province, forms part of a broader strategy to reduce flooding incidents that have historically caused congestion and safety concerns along one of the country's most critical transportation corridors.
Flood-related disruptions on the NLEx have periodically disrupted commerce and commuter traffic between Metro Manila and northern Luzon. By improving the capacity and flow of adjacent waterways, authorities hope to minimize the frequency and severity of such incidents.
The initiative represents coordination between the toll road operator and provincial government on infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing both public safety and transportation efficiency in the region.
