NMDC iron ore output surges 18% in October as production momentum builds

NMDC's iron ore output climbed 18 per cent month-on-month to 5.04 million tonnes in October 2026, underscoring sustained production gains at the country's largest iron ore miner.

The October performance reflects continued operational momentum, with the corporation's April-October production rising 22 per cent year-on-year to 32.32 million tonnes. The expansion demonstrates NMDC's progress in ramping up extraction capacity at its key mining operations.

However, the period was not without disruptions. Railway logistics challenges temporarily affected the company's dispatch and sales volumes during parts of the April-October window, restraining the ability to move finished inventory to market. Such supply chain constraints have proven a recurring headwind for Indian mining companies dependent on rail networks for bulk mineral transport.

Industry observers note that sustained production growth, despite short-term logistical impediments, suggests NMDC has maintained operational discipline. The corporation's output trajectory is viewed as important for supporting India's steel sector and broader industrial demand.
