No DepEd secret funds used for youth summit, prosecution says

MANILA — Three witnesses testified that no confidential Department of Education (DepEd) funds were allocated to military units for Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) activities in 2023, according to Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, House prosecution spokesperson.
Alonto Adiong made the assertion during a press conference on Wednesday, clarifying that while the summit activities were referenced in DepEd's liquidation report, no secret government funds were actually disbursed for the program.
The prosecution's position comes as Congress examines the financial arrangements surrounding the 2023 youth summit. The testimony from the three witnesses formed the basis of Alonto Adiong's statement that proper procedures were followed and confidential funds remained untouched.
The case continues to draw scrutiny from lawmakers investigating DepEd's budget utilization and the proper channeling of government resources. The prosecution's evidence appears aimed at establishing that whatever activities were documented in official reports did not involve misuse of classified government funding mechanisms.
