Engineers at the Ceylon Electricity Board have completed restoration efforts at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant, bringing all three generating units back online. The units had been temporarily offline due to scheduled maintenance activities and technical faults that required attention.
The return to full capacity represents a significant boost to Sri Lanka's power generation infrastructure at a critical time for national electricity supply. The plant, a major contributor to the country's coal-fired electricity production, operates three generators that supply substantial capacity to the interconnected national grid.
The CEB technical team successfully addressed the technical issues affecting the units and completed the required maintenance protocols to restore operational functionality. With all generators now connected and functioning, the power plant is expected to contribute its full generating capacity to meeting domestic energy demand.
The restoration effort underscores ongoing efforts by Sri Lanka's power generation authorities to maintain and optimize thermal power facilities that form a core component of the national electricity system. The return to full operations at Norochcholai follows a period of reduced capacity while maintenance and technical work were carried out.
