North Andhra Pradesh's three coastal districts are ramping up cyclone preparedness measures as meteorological forecasts indicate heightened weather risks during the approaching monsoon and cyclone seasons. District administrations have mobilized disaster management teams, pre-positioned emergency supplies, and established communication networks to ensure swift response to any weather-related emergencies.
The districts have activated cyclone shelters in vulnerable coastal communities and are coordinating with fishing communities to ensure adequate warning systems and evacuation protocols. Local authorities have instructed residents in high-risk zones to familiarize themselves with designated shelters and evacuation routes. Training programs for emergency responders are underway to enhance coordination between police, fire services, and municipal bodies.
Health departments have been directed to stockpile essential medicines and establish emergency medical camps in strategic locations. Authorities are also conducting mock drills to test the efficiency of early warning dissemination systems and inter-agency coordination mechanisms. Revenue officials have been tasked with updating disaster vulnerability assessments and ensuring that vulnerable populations, including elderly residents and persons with disabilities, have priority access to assistance during emergencies.
The administration has also coordinated with fishing associations to discourage fishing operations during high-risk weather periods and ensure fishermen possess updated weather alerts. Power distribution companies have been advised to maintain backup systems and ensure rapid restoration of electricity in affected areas. Officials stated that readiness exercises will continue until the end of the cyclone season, with regular reviews to address gaps in preparedness infrastructure.
