North Korea conducts air defence and cruise missile tests

North Korea conducted separate tests of air defence and cruise missiles on November 4, South Korea's defence ministry said, marking the latest in a series of weapons demonstrations by the isolated state.

The launches occurred from the Sondok area on North Korea's east coast, with multiple missiles fired towards the sea, according to Seoul's military officials. The tests included what Pyongyang characterised as an air defence missile exercise alongside a cruise missile drill.

The weapons tests reflect North Korea's ongoing programme to modernise its military capabilities despite international sanctions and diplomatic isolation. Recent months have seen repeated missile launches and weapons demonstrations by Pyongyang as it develops various systems intended for defensive and offensive purposes.

The launches come amid heightened military activities in the Korean Peninsula and broader regional security concerns. South Korea's defence establishment has continued monitoring North Korean military developments closely, with officials providing regular assessments of weapons tests and other military exercises.

North Korea has not provided detailed technical specifications of the systems tested, though such demonstrations typically serve both military development and propaganda purposes for the regime.
