North Korea denounces FBI allegations over Binance cryptocurrency hack

North Korea has strongly disputed allegations made by the FBI linking the regime to a significant hack at cryptocurrency exchange Binance, describing the accusation as a grave provocation. Kim Yo Jong, a senior official in Pyongyang's leadership, dismissed the claims as baseless and indicative of a pattern of unfounded assertions against the country.

The FBI had previously attributed the breach to North Korean actors, as part of investigations into cyber operations allegedly sponsored by the regime. Such allegations have been a recurring feature of international discussions regarding North Korean hacking activities, which Western intelligence agencies have said fund the country's weapons programmes.

Kim Yo Jong's statement represents Pyongyang's typical response to foreign accusations regarding cyber attacks. The regime has consistently denied involvement in major hacking incidents, maintaining that such allegations are part of broader efforts to isolate and discredit North Korea on the international stage.

The Binance hack represents one of several high-profile cyber incidents attributed by Western authorities to North Korean actors in recent years. Cybersecurity analysts have linked North Korean groups to attacks on cryptocurrency platforms, financial institutions, and defence-related targets across multiple countries.
