North Korea inaugurates new bridge crossing to China

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency reported Friday that an opening ceremony was held for a new bridge spanning the Amnok River, also known as the Yalu River, which forms the border between North Korea and China.

The newly constructed crossing, referred to as the New Yalu River Bridge, provides an additional transport route between the isolated peninsula nation and China, its closest ally and largest trading partner.

Details regarding the scale of the infrastructure project, the timing of its construction, and the specific routes it will service remain limited. The announcement underscores North Korea's continued efforts to develop border infrastructure and maintain critical supply lines with Beijing.

The development comes amid ongoing international sanctions against Pyongyang and represents one of the few areas of cooperation the country maintains with its neighbours. Cross-border connectivity with China remains strategically significant for North Korea's economy and logistics networks.

The Amnok River has historically served as a vital corridor for trade and movement between the two nations, with existing bridges already facilitating bilateral commerce and people-to-people exchange.
