North Korea slams US-South Korea military drills as provocation

North Korea's state media has issued a fresh denunciation of ongoing military exercises jointly conducted by the United States and South Korea, framing the drills as provocative actions that threaten regional stability.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Pyongyang views the joint manoeuvres as part of a broader pattern of military aggression aimed at the country. Officials stated that North Korea would continue to exercise what they describe as their legitimate right to self-defence in response to perceived threats from both Washington and Seoul.

The rebuke comes amid recurring tensions on the Korean peninsula, where US and South Korean forces regularly conduct combined training exercises. These drills have long been a source of friction with Pyongyang, which contends they represent preparations for military action against the North.

North Korea has historically responded to such exercises by accelerating its own military development programmes, including weapons testing. The country's assertion of its right to self-defence typically signals its intention to pursue security measures independently of international concerns.
