The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the northeast monsoon will make landfall over southern India within the next 48 to 72 hours, marking the commencement of the season's rainfall activity across the peninsula's southern reaches.
According to the IMD's latest forecast, the monsoon system is anticipated to bring significant precipitation and an extended spell of wet weather to several states in the region starting around October 15. The rainfall is expected to persist through October 18, with heavy downpours anticipated during this period.
The northeast monsoon, which typically influences weather patterns over peninsular India during the October-December period, generally brings relief from the preceding dry season. Meteorological officials cautioned residents and authorities in affected areas to remain prepared for the anticipated wet conditions and potential weather-related disruptions.
The IMD continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will provide updated forecasts as the monsoon system approaches the southern peninsula. Agricultural sectors, water management authorities, and disaster management agencies have been advised to take necessary precautions ahead of the expected rainfall activity.
