Novartis India charts growth through targeted deals, smaller-city expansion

Novartis India Ltd plans to pursue disciplined, therapy-aligned acquisitions as part of its next growth phase, according to its latest annual report. The company will simultaneously deepen its last-mile distribution reach into smaller cities and towns where its specialist franchises remain significantly under-penetrated relative to their market potential.

The Swiss pharmaceutical company has identified five anchor therapy areas to guide its expansion strategy: pain management, wellness, women's health, neuroscience, and transplant immunology. The company aims to build new revenue avenues by strengthening brand equity in established products including Voveran, Calcium Sandoz, Methergin, Tegretol, Myfortic, and Simulect.

Vikas Gupta, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Novartis India, emphasized that the company is prioritising expansion into non-metro markets where its specialist divisions face significant untapped opportunity. This strategy is viewed as a direct mechanism to drive volume growth and market share gains.

As part of its FY 2026-27 transition, Novartis India is repositioning established franchises including Voveran, Methergin, Macalvit, and Calcium Sandoz to capitalise on emerging demand across smaller urban centres and rural markets.
