NPA suspect arrested in connection with 2016 soldier's death

Authorities in Agusan del Sur have apprehended a suspected New People's Army member wanted for a fatal ambush on an Army soldier nearly a decade ago. The 25-year-old suspect from Gingoog City was detained following a coordinated operation by criminal investigators.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested the suspect in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur on Sunday, police said. He is accused of involvement in a 2016 ambush attack in Agusan del Norte that resulted in the death of an Army soldier.

The suspect, a resident of Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental, was identified as a member of the New People's Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Officials have linked him to the fatal military engagement that occurred several years prior.

The arrest was conducted as part of ongoing law enforcement efforts to track down individuals involved in attacks against government forces. Authorities continue to pursue other personalities connected to the incident, which remains under investigation.
