NParks unable to locate venomous cobra spotted near Serangoon Gardens

The National Parks Board has concluded its search for a venomous black spitting cobra reported in the vicinity of Serangoon Gardens, without successfully locating the reptile.

The snake, which is indigenous to Singapore, poses a potential risk to residents and visitors in the area. Black spitting cobras are known for their ability to spray venom as a defensive mechanism and are capable of delivering fatal bites.

While the search proved unsuccessful, NParks noted that such sightings are not uncommon in Singapore's parks, gardens and densely populated urban zones. The species has adapted well to the city-state's built environment and encounters with the snakes occur periodically across various locations.

Residents are advised to exercise caution in the affected area and to report any further sightings to NParks immediately. Members of the public are reminded not to approach or attempt to handle any snakes encountered in the wild, as this significantly increases the risk of envenomation.
