NRL grants Rabbitohs star special dispensation to reach 100 games

The National Rugby League has approved a special dispensation allowing Jai Arrow to play in the opening moments of South Sydney's next two matches, enabling the Rabbitohs star to reach 100 appearances for the club.
Arrow, a key figure in South Sydney's lineup, announced his retirement in May after receiving a motor neurone disease diagnosis. The 28-year-old's premature departure from professional rugby league would have left him one game short of the significant 100-game milestone with the club.
Under the approved exemption, Arrow will take the field briefly during the opening stages of the Rabbitohs' upcoming fixtures, allowing him to complete his century of appearances. The arrangement represents a rare exception to standard NRL playing regulations.
Motor neurone disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in some regions, is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that affects nerve cells controlling voluntary muscles. Arrow's decision to step away from the sport reflects the serious nature of his diagnosis.
The special arrangement has been viewed as a fitting recognition of Arrow's contribution to the Rabbitohs and provides an opportunity for the player to achieve a personal career goal despite his medical circumstances.
