V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) have withdrawn a statement issued on September 16 that challenged S.C. Jamir's standing to comment on the Naga political issue, according to sources familiar with the development.
The retraction came after the Ao Senden, a community organization, issued a warning to the NSCN leaders, threatening action if they failed to withdraw the statement within 15 days.
The Ao Senden's intervention underscores ongoing sensitivities surrounding statements on the Naga political question, a complex issue that remains central to discussions in the northeastern state. The organization's firm stance prompted the quick reversal by the NSCN leaders.
S.C. Jamir, who served as Chief Minister of Nagaland, has been a prominent voice in regional political debates. The September statement by Atem and Raising had sought to question his authority to engage in such discourse, marking a point of contention that the Ao Senden deemed serious enough to warrant intervention.
The withdrawal represents a resolution to the brief but significant dispute, though it reflects the contentious nature of political commentary in the state's ongoing peace and governance processes.
