NSE IPO oversubscribed as anchor book crosses ₹6,000 crore mark

The National Stock Exchange's much-anticipated public share offering has drawn substantially higher demand than anticipated, according to NSE Chief Executive Ashishkumar Chauhan. The anchor investor book, which received commitments exceeding ₹6,000 crore, was reduced from an earlier target of approximately ₹9,000 crore, signaling robust institutional appetite for the bourse operator's equity.

The strong response from anchor investors underscores confidence in NSE's market position and growth prospects, even as the company proceeded with a more conservative anchor allocation than initially envisaged. The anchor phase, which typically precedes the main public subscription period, allows institutional investors to commit capital before the broader market opens for retail participation.

Chauhan noted that overall demand for the IPO shares significantly outpaced the available allocation, reflecting investor enthusiasm for one of India's premier financial market infrastructure operators. The exchange is India's largest by trading volumes and a critical player in the country's securities market ecosystem.

The oversubscription comes as NSE seeks to raise capital for technology upgrades, infrastructure expansion, and potential acquisitions. The IPO represents a significant milestone for the exchange, which has operated as a private entity since its inception and now opens its ownership to public markets.
