India's premier bourse NSE saw earnings decline substantially in the second quarter as margin compression offset steady revenue generation, signalling intensifying operational pressures in the exchange segment.
Net profit contracted 17% during the period, while Ebitda—a key measure of operational performance—dropped 13.3% to Rs 3,079 crore from Rs 3,551 crore in the preceding quarter. The sequential decline reflects rising expenditure relative to income, even as the exchange maintained overall revenue levels above the Rs 4,000 crore threshold.
The results underscore ongoing challenges facing NSE amid evolving market dynamics and regulatory requirements. The bourse continues to generate substantial revenues from trading, clearing, and technology services, though profitability metrics have come under pressure.
The margin squeeze reflects broader industry headwinds affecting exchange operators, as they navigate increased compliance costs, infrastructure investments, and competitive pressures within the financial services ecosystem. Analysts will be watching closely for signs of stabilisation in operational efficiency in coming quarters.
