NSE to boost e-gold receipts with retail app, expanded network
The National Stock Exchange is launching a dedicated mobile application and expanding its collection centre network to drive retail adoption of electronic gold receipts, which have struggled to gain traction since their introduction.

The NSE is undertaking a strategic push to make electronic gold receipts (EGRs) more accessible to retail investors through technology and infrastructure improvements. The exchange plans to develop a dedicated mobile application that will simplify the process of purchasing and managing EGRs, removing friction points that may have deterred individual investors from the product.
Electronic gold receipts, which represent ownership of physical gold held in secure vaults, have experienced subdued trading volumes since their market launch. The NSE believes that increased accessibility and a more user-friendly interface will help broaden the investor base and drive higher trading activity.
Beyond the mobile app, the exchange intends to establish a wider network of collection centres across India. This expansion will allow retail investors greater convenience in purchasing EGRs and completing transactions without relying solely on digital channels.
The initiative reflects broader efforts by India's securities regulator and market participants to democratize access to gold investment instruments. By reducing barriers to entry and simplifying the customer experience, the NSE aims to position electronic gold receipts as a viable alternative to physical gold ownership for a broader segment of Indian investors.
