NSE to overhaul pre-open auction framework starting September 7
The National Stock Exchange will revise its pre-open auction mechanism to align with its closing auction session structure, establishing a unified price discovery process for market open and close.

The National Stock Exchange of India has announced a revision to its pre-open auction framework, effective September 7, aimed at standardizing the auction process across the trading day. The modification will bring the opening auction procedure into alignment with the existing Closing Auction Session framework, creating consistency in how prices are discovered at both the start and end of trading sessions.
The revised pre-open framework will adopt structural elements from the closing auction model, ensuring that investors experience a uniform auction mechanism regardless of the time of day. This alignment is expected to enhance the efficiency and transparency of price discovery during the critical junctures of the trading day when institutional and retail investors are most active.
The exchange has signaled that the changes are part of its broader effort to strengthen market microstructure and provide a level playing field for all market participants. By harmonizing the opening and closing auction processes, the NSE aims to reduce operational complexity and improve investor confidence in the price-setting mechanism.
The move comes as Indian equity markets continue to evolve their trading infrastructure to meet international standards and accommodate growing market participation. Market participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the revised framework before the implementation date to ensure seamless transition.
