NSO seeks approval for 2.88% electricity tariff hike in Q4

The National System Operator (NSO) has formally requested approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to implement a 2.88% increase in electricity tariffs for the fourth quarter, covering the October to December period.

The PUCSL, which oversees utility pricing in the country, has now initiated its tariff review process for the fourth quarter. The commission is responsible for evaluating such requests to ensure they reflect actual operational costs while protecting consumer interests.

If approved, the tariff adjustment would represent the latest modification to electricity rates this year as the NSO seeks to balance generation and distribution costs with revenue requirements. The timing of the application allows the PUCSL time to conduct its standard review before the October implementation date.

Electricity tariff adjustments in Sri Lanka remain a closely monitored issue, with regular quarterly reviews reflecting fluctuations in fuel costs, operational expenses, and system requirements. The outcome of this review will be significant for domestic and commercial consumers entering the final months of 2024.
