Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) who joined a recent protest march led by Rahul Gandhi have lodged formal complaints against law enforcement agencies, accusing police personnel of using excessive force during and after their detention.
According to the protesters' accounts, they were subjected to physical abuse while in police custody. The allegations include claims that officers struck at least one demonstrator on the head with a lathi and caused facial injuries through aggressive handling.
The incidents reportedly occurred following the demonstration, which saw NSUI members mobilising in support of Congress party activities. The protesters have sought documentation of their injuries and called for an independent inquiry into the alleged misconduct.
The allegations add to ongoing concerns about police conduct during political demonstrations in the region. Authorities have yet to respond formally to the complaints filed by the student activists. The matter has drawn attention from civil liberties organisations monitoring interactions between law enforcement and protest participants.
