Members of the NSUI gathered outside Parliament Street police station in central Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday to press demands for a First Information Report (FIR) regarding alleged violence against female members of the organization. The demonstration occurred hours before a scheduled Tricolour march organized by the Confederation of Indian Universities (CJP) was set to commence in the capital.
According to NSUI representatives, several members including president Vinod Jakhad were taken into police custody during the incident. The student organization alleged that law enforcement officers failed to register their complaint about the alleged assault on female activists.
The NSUI leveled accusations against the Delhi police, claiming that authorities were not cooperating in documenting their grievance. The organization demanded immediate filing of an FIR and release of detained members, though specific details regarding the nature of the alleged assault remained unclear.
The midnight confrontation added an unexpected layer of tension to planned Independence Day-related activities in the capital. Police officials had not immediately commented on the NSUI's allegations or the circumstances leading to the detention of the organization's members at the time of reporting.
