NTA allows passport as valid ID for NRI JEE Main 2027 applicants

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a significant policy change regarding identity documentation for non-resident Indian (NRI) candidates applying for the JEE Main 2027 examination.

Under the new guidelines, NRI applicants who lack conventional Indian identity documents—such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, or driving licenses—will now be permitted to use their passports as valid proof of identity during the application and examination process.

The move is designed to streamline the application procedure for Indians residing abroad and eliminate documentation barriers that may have previously hindered NRI participation in the entrance examination. Passport holders will now have equal standing with candidates presenting domestic identification credentials.

The relaxation reflects the NTA's efforts to make the JEE Main examination more accessible to the Indian diaspora seeking admission to premier engineering institutions. Officials have not announced additional changes to the 2027 examination format or schedule at this time.

Candidates are advised to refer to the official NTA website for comprehensive guidelines on acceptable identity documents and complete application procedures for JEE Main 2027.
