The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has moved to block access to two websites accused of operating as platforms for online predators to encourage minors into committing real-world violence. The decision comes as investigators examine potential connections between the sites and a spate of school-based shootings that have claimed eight lives and injured at least 28 others in 2024.
Authorities allege the websites employ grooming techniques to target and radicalize young Filipinos, progressively encouraging them toward violent acts including on-campus attacks. Three separate shooting incidents on school campuses this year prompted the expanded investigation into online radicalization pathways.
The NTC's blocking action represents a coordinated response by Philippine telecommunications regulators to combat the use of digital platforms as recruitment tools for violence.
