NTPC powers ahead with 13% growth in Q2 generation output

NTPC Limited generated 117.9 billion units (BUs) of electricity during the July-September quarter of FY 2026-27, up from 104.4 BUs in the same period last year, the company announced Thursday. The growth reflects sustained operational efficiency across the state-owned generator's thermal and renewable energy portfolios.

Coal dispatches registered particularly strong gains, reaching 11.899 million metric tonnes in the second quarter compared to 9.260 million metric tonnes a year earlier, representing a 28.45 per cent increase. This acceleration in coal supply reflects improved mining and logistics coordination, supporting NTPC's generation capacity utilization.

Power trading volumes also expanded significantly, rising 22 per cent to 15.06 BUs in Q2 FY 2026-27 from 12.34 BUs in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company attributed the broad-based growth to enhanced operational performance and reliable supply management.

As India's largest power generation utility operating under the Ministry of Power, NTPC currently supplies approximately one-fourth of the country's total energy demand. The company operates an installed capacity of over 91 gigawatts and has an additional 35 per cent capacity under construction to meet rising national electricity requirements.
