Nugegoda businessman remanded in Colombo 7 land fraud inquiry

The businessman was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on charges related to his alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal sale of property through falsified documentation. According to investigators, the suspect is accused of assisting in the transaction while knowingly using forged deeds to legitimize the transfer of the valuable land plot.

The Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspect following a probe into the fraudulent property transaction. Authorities allege that the accused received financial benefit through his involvement in the scheme, which targeted a high-value property in one of Colombo's most affluent areas.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the suspect remanded in custody until November 5 to facilitate ongoing investigations. The case forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat property-related fraud and document forgery in the Western Province.

The investigation is expected to examine the full scope of the alleged transaction, including the roles of other parties potentially involved in the scheme. Property fraud cases involving forged documentation have drawn heightened scrutiny from authorities in recent years.
