CALAPAN CITY — The municipal government of Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro has stepped up enforcement operations to block unauthorized live pig movements into the municipality, as officials work to shield local swine producers from African swine fever.

Last Saturday, authorities in Barangay Burgos intercepted a group of pig transporters attempting to move animals into the area without proper authorization. The operation reflects escalating efforts by the municipal government and its ASF task force to prevent disease introduction.

The ban on live pig entry has become increasingly critical as African swine fever continues to pose a significant threat to pig-raising communities across the region. Officials have emphasized the importance of stringent border controls and documentation requirements for any livestock movement into Sablayan.

Local hog raisers have expressed support for the tighter restrictions, viewing them as essential to protecting their livelihoods from the highly contagious disease. Authorities have warned that violations of the import prohibition could result in penalties and confiscation of animals.
