Occidental Mindoro plunged into unexpected power blackout Sunday

A sudden, unscheduled power interruption left the entire mainland of Occidental Mindoro without electricity on Sunday morning. The Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative said the blackout affected multiple municipalities across the province.

CALAPAN CITY — The entire mainland of Occidental Mindoro experienced an unexpected total blackout around 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, according to the Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO).

The power interruption affected multiple areas across the province, including the municipalities of Samarica, Sablayan, and the MAPSA region, which comprises Mamburao, Abra de Ilog, Paluan, and Santa Cruz.

OMECO initiated troubleshooting operations immediately following the outage to identify and address the cause of the unscheduled interruption. The cooperative did not provide immediate details regarding the duration of the blackout or its underlying cause.

Residents and businesses across the affected areas experienced significant disruption to their operations as a result of the power loss.
